The Goodman Theater sponsors a storytelling workshop at several senior centers in Chicago, including Renaissance Court. I took the first couple they did and am back in it again. We are coached in writing stories of our lives which fit into the theme of the current play running at the theater and we get to go see the play free of charge. We also have a combined performance workshop where all participants from all the centers come to Goodman to do fun Improv type activities. That is designed to show us how to make our stories more engaging when we present them for an audience. We do that at the end of the program. Our center has so many people taking part that we have a program just at the center for all of us to share in, but only two people get to represent us for the citywide program. When it started, we were all able to take part, but the program has grown tremendously. Our theme this time is Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends and the play is a Chinese fairy tale The White Snake. I am looking forward to seeing that on Wednesday.
