IT'S NEVER TOO LATE!

Start of Article

I finally began working on an article idea I have had for some time. So far though I am only satisfied with the opening paragraph and not 100% pleased with it either, but at least I did something.

The Literary Living course is not what I was expecting and I told the woman who designed it because she wanted feedback since we were her first group.  I am still behind but she is allowing us to have until September to complete it.  It is scheduled to end in April and she will be beginning a new group at that time.

Social Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — ccassello @ 6:17 am

This is not related to my writing goals, but I want to make a note of today, so I will not forget it because it was far from my average day.  One of my cousins of my father’s family, any of whom I may see only at a wedding or funeral, came to pick me up an take me to lunch.  A friend had called before I left because she felt a need to go out and do something fun, so I said I’d call her when I got back.

I called her, as I said I would and we set a time and place to meet downtown and from there she drove out to Park Ridge where we went to the Pickwick Theater and saw the movie Unknown.  We stopped at her building on the near north side for a retirement party for one of their maintenance men.  He was leaving after 30 years of service there.  There was bread and crackers with cheese spreads, cake and several kinds of wine.

We sampled all of the wines because neither of us does much wine drinking and we did not know what we liked.  We felt some effect from them.  I came up to her apartment to see how she had changed the furnishings and to especially look at her electric fireplace which she had been telling me about for some time.  She then drove me to a bus stop downtown and I took two buses home from there.  One is a very short ride that I walk in the daytime, but do not at night.  So, it was a very nice day, the like of which as I said I seldom if ever have.

Story Submission

Filed under: Uncategorized — ccassello @ 8:06 am

I finished typing up a rewrite of one of the stories I wrote for the ICL course I took a couple of years ago and I submitted it to an online publication.  This one is a paying market, however, not a high paying one.  My story seemed to fit what they are looking for better than what the major children’s magazine publishers want.

The story is not a religious one either, although I do mention God once in a piece of dialogue.  It would not fit the market for Sunday school lesson materials which is about the only other source of children’s publications for short stories that I see in the market guides.  Otherwise it is book publishers and this piece is not book length even though it is longer than many magazines specify as their maximum word count  in the writer’s guidelines.

Story Rewrite

Filed under: Uncategorized — ccassello @ 2:30 am

I am a bit behind in the goal I tried to set myself after reading part of the material on Motivation from the Literary Living course, (which I am way behind on now).  I had planned to have a short story I had written for one of my ICL lessons, rewritten on Tuesday, I was going to find a market to submit it to on Wednesday and send it out today.  I just finished typing the rewrite.  At least I will get it submitted somewhere this month.  If I can do one submission a month, I will be happy.  It will be progress for me.

Mixed Bag Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — ccassello @ 5:17 am

This morning I awoke to a sunny day and I knew I wanted to get out.  I looked on the calendar of my cell phone and saw that the only thing listed was Improv.  That was usually fun, so I thought I will go to that and maybe get some writing ideas also.  I went out and found out it was colder than I expected and for some other reason I went back up, put on another layer and got whatever it was I went back for and headed downtown.  I got to the Cultural Center and found out there was no Improv today.  I know they meet every other week but it felt like the last one I was at was more that one week ago.

I got a scone and coffee at the cafe and considered what else I may want to do while I was downtown, and I lost a pair of nylon or some such thin material gloves.  I must have put them down on the table I was at and forgotten them and by the time I missed them, they were gone.  That sort of dampened my spirit and I decided to just go back home.

When I did get back, I called a friend.  While we were talking, my cell phone rang.  I did not answer it but looked to see who the call was from.  Usually only one person calls me on it and I did not want to talk to her.  This time though it was my aunt.  I suddenly remembered that last week I told her that Tuesday was a day I could go to visit her and I told my friend she was calling to see where I was.  So, we hung up and I quickly put my coat back on grabbed my purse and headed back out.  I called her to tell her I was on my way.  (Her message on voicemail said she hoped I hadn’t forgotten I said I would come over.)

I made good connections on all but one bus getting there and we had a nice visit and I saw my cousin whom I had not seen for at least 10 years, I think longer, I believe he said 15.  My aunt ordered a pizza to be delivered and gave me some to take home, and rather than a birthday cake for a belated birthday celebration for me, she had a peach pie.  She also let me take some of that home, gave me two frozen dinners and a check in a card.  So, it was a nice after birthday party.
